I don’t know if something like this exists yet. If you know of something similar please let me know in the comments.
The idea: You know language X and you want to know language Y. So, this platform/community enables you to “pair up” with someone that knows language Y and wants to know language X. I’m surprised nothing like this exists yet. If you’d be interested please fill out this form.
Thanks for reading! Please share your thoughts with me on Twitter. Have a great day!
There is http://skills.to which was recently released.
@chovy, thanks for the link! skills.to looks good, although it doesn’t seem to do much more than tagging. I am not sure what I’m looking for though. A community designed specifically for skill-exchange might be a bit far-fetched but I would like some kind of gathering place for people interested in exchanging. Once again, thanks for the link. It got me thinking about how Twitter integration could make this all much easier to implement.
Great idea! I’m pretty good with JS but want to learn Python, and I’m sure I could find someone for a skills exchange if a service like that existed.
There’s a German site called Erste Nachhilfe (translates roughly to “First Tuition”) which aims to pair people together for one-on-one paid tuition or free exchange. The exchange part obviously focuses on (spoken) language exchange, for example “I speak English and want to improve my Italian, this person speaks Italian and wants to improve their English”. The site is only really operational in Germany and Austria, but the concept should be easily extensible to programming languages, I’d imagine.

So a Duolingo for programmers?
Hi,
I am one of he founders at skills.to – we just started a few weeks ago. We plan to do an API – would that help?
Hey I just discovered your blog. Great work! skillshare.com seems to be doing something similar. There is also tradeschool.ourgoods.org.
